A Study on the recognition and the utilization state of medical care in a rural area of Korea


Abstract
From 18th Jul. 1983 to 28th Jul. 1983 a survey of 147 families who are living in Hampyung county, a rural area, regarding their recognition and the utilization state of medical care for basic data collection for searching better health care delivery system and obtained the following results,
1. 85.7% of total subjects are older than 40 years and 57.1% are primary school graduates, 93.9% are farmers, 81% have no religion, 50.3% responded that they are belong to the middle class in their village, 10.9% have med. insurance, 17.7% have Medicaid.
2. 61.2% responded that the origination of disease should be the action of pathogenic germs, 36.1% responded they don¢¥t know; and male, younger group have correct knowledge and result showed no relationship between religion, education, the standard of living and the recognition of it, and tile author arrived at the conclusion that more health education for them should be provided.
3. For the health problem solving method, 38.1% of total subjects responded that they visit pharmacy, 34.7% used to wait for the time-being using folk-med. and the age group thirties visit pharmacy, lower educated group showed more confidence in chinese med. and the result showed no relationship between religion, the standard of living, med. insurance, med. protection or it¢¥s choice of solving method, however it has relationship with the decision maker, and author arrived at the conclusion that such institution like C.H.C. distributed throughout the rural area, whew the people may receive good quality of health service for low cost, paid for P.H.C. or pharmacy, the rate of visit would become higher.
4. About the value of Chinese med., 96.6% of total subjects showed positive attitude on it including it¢¥s totally, partially curative value and the restorative value and esp. female group showed more confidence in it, however it showed no relationship between age, education, religion, the standard of living and the recognition of it, and the author arrived at the conclusion that more work is to be done about the methodology to integrate it into the health care delivery system.
5. About the value of folk-med., 83.7% of total subjects showed positive attitude including it¢¥s totally, partially curative value, and the male group. older age group, budhist group showed more confidence in it and it showed no relationship with education, the standard of living, and the author arrived at the conclusion that further study of it is needed.
6. 55.8% responded that the med. institution gave the greatest satisfaction to them and 18.4% responded that all of them costs too much.
7. 68.7% responded thepharmacy costs cheapest.
8. For the source of health knowledge, 35.4% answered Radio and T.V., and from Nurses is only 4.1%.
